Montgomery County is located in the state of Illinois. The county seat is currently Hillsboro. The Montgomery County population in 2020 was 28,288.
It was formed in 1821.
It was named in honor of Richard Montgomery, an American Revolutionary War general killed in 1775 while attempting to capture Quebec City, Canada.

NOTE - There are a number of rules that must be followed in order for Montgomery County habitants to obtain records. The Montgomery County office is only open from Monday to Friday, between 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. CST. In order to be granted a copy of a record, a person must also be able to show some form of photo identification. A driver's license or state ID are both accepted forms of photo ID. Any request for records in Montgomery County must be put in writing.
