It was formed in 1818.

It was named for George Washington. He was an American political leader, military general, statesman, and founding father who served as the first president of the United States from 1789 to 1797.

Washington County Public Records

Vital records are kept on every inhabitant of both Illinois state and Washington County. In fact, Washington County, along with the other Illinois counties, is in charge of amassing some of these documents and forwarding them to the state government. But, Washington County charges a fee per record copied. The first copies of birth records in Washington County cost $15. It then costs an additional $5 for every copy beyond that. In Washington County, a person has to pay $19 for the first copy of their desired Death record. It then costs an added $9 for every copy beyond that. The first marriage record requested will cost a person $15in Washington County. It then costs an added $5 for every copy beyond that.

NOTE - There are a number of rules that must be followed in order for Washington County inhabitants to obtain records.
