DuPage County Inmate Search

Per 725 ILCS 5/107-2, a DuPage County police officer can get a warrant for arrest when an investigation reveals that a person has committed crimes. However, an arrest can be made without a warrant when there is probable cause to believe that a person has committed or is committing any crime (750 ILCS 60/301).

After an arrest, the suspect is brought to the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office for processing. The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office uses the Offendertrak Corrections Inmate Management System to record the suspect’s arrest information, mugshot, demographics, medical history, fingerprint, identifying marks, and personal belongings. After the booking process, the officer will print out the booking jacket, medical questions, and property sheet. The suspect will then verify the information and sign each form accordingly. The suspect will be held in jail until arraignment. During the arraignment, the suspect (defendant) will stand before the judge, and the charges will be read to them. The judge will then ask the defendant to enter their plea.

Once the plea is entered, the judge will consider whether the defendant can be released on bail, their own recognizance, or held in custody until trial. During the trial, the attorneys in charge of the case will present arguments and evidence and question witnesses. Afterward, the judge or jury will give their verdict, which could be guilty or not guilty. If the defendant is found not guilty, the charges will be dismissed. If the defendant is found guilty, the judge will give a sentence that could include fines or jail terms. If the sentence is a jail term, the defendant will be taken to DuPage County jail. They will be booked in and issued a copy of the inmate rules and regulations, sexual abuse/assault prevention inmate emergency procedures, and intervention information, and release preparation - community resource guide. All the information entered into the Offendertrak system during booking will be printed and placed in the inmate’s file folder. After the booking process, the inmate will be dressed in a jail uniform and housed in the receiving area.

Interested persons can access the inmate's arrest reports and inmate records in person or online at the Dupage County Sheriff’s Corrections Bureau. Online inmate search can be done via the Inmate Search tool available on the Sheriff’s website. In-person requests can be made by visiting the office during business hours.

Inmate records are considered public in the United States and therefore are made available by both traditional governmental agencies as well as third-party websites and organizations. Third-party websites may offer an easier means to search, as these services do not face geographical limitations. However, because third-party sites are not government-sponsored, the information obtained through them may vary from official channels. To find inmate records using third-party aggregate sites, requesting parties must provide:

  • The location of the sought-after record, including state, county, and city where the inmate resides.
  • The name of the person listed in the record, unless it is a juvenile.
